It’s hard to believe the summer season is already winding down, but the Tech:NYC team has been hard at work preparing for a busy — and exciting — fall! Here’s a few things to look out for:

As you may have seen, we’ve just kicked off a new series of roundtables we’re calling Functions.NYC — an opportunity for employees working at all levels inside Tech:NYC member companies to have lunch (Taco Tuesdays!) with our city’s civic and government leaders to discuss how New York functions day in and day out. We have monthly gatherings set up through the rest of the year, and we’d love for you to be a part of them. You can sign up to receive invitations here — and we hope to impress you with our taco bowl game.

Next month, we’re also back with our monthly Cornell Tech @ Bloomberg speaker series, where we’ll talk with VSCO co-founder and CEO Joel Flory about all things AI and creative technology, plus the annual Tech Gives Back initiative comes back bigger than ever before.

We’ve also been using our summer to dig in on all the things that make the New York tech ecosystem great: our diversity and our talent. To highlight that, we’re working on two large research projects — one that gives us more insight into tech’s reach across other sectors in NYC that updates our data on the diversity of the NYC tech workforce, and one that maps the city’s resources in preparing New Yorkers for a career in tech.

We’re excited to share more on these projects soon — alongside all of our ongoing initiatives — and we hope to say hello at one of our upcoming events. Happy Labor Day weekend!

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO

We kicked off Congressional Startup Day 2019 with the initiative’s first nationwide event, a company-wide AMA with Rep. Jerry Nadler at WayUp! Read CEO Liz Wessel’s recap on what the experience was like for her and her employees.

We launched our new Functions.NYC roundtable series — an opportunity for employees at our member companies to meet civic and government leaders and discuss the things that help our city run. We continued the Congressional Startup Day 2019 festivities with Rep. Yvette Clarke at Industrious! Brooklyn is now home to 1,200+ tech startups and we’re grateful to have Rep. Clarke’s support as the borough’s innovation economy continues to grow.

It’s time again for Brooklyn Bridge Ventures’ annual Fall Fundraising Days, four days of curated events, office hours, panels, and a unique full day conference with investors from both coasts. To see the full schedule of events from September 10-13, and to register to participate, click here. 

AI4ALL is seeking companies to participate in its Changemakers in AI Virtual Internship Fair on September 25. During the fair, companies will have early access to top college-aged AI talent, as well as the opportunity to promote 2020 summer internship opportunities in a variety of artificial intelligence subdisciplines. New Lab has partnered with global startup generator Antler to provide an unparalleled support ecosystem for entrepreneurs to launch new ventures. Individuals can apply without having a company and, if selected, are provided with an ecosystem of founders, advisors, investors and technology to help them find a co-founder, validate business models, and raise capital. Applications are now open for the next cohort of Living Lab startups. With the program, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership partners with tech companies to pilot products in real world situations. Using DBP-operated public spaces as a testing ground for smart city technologies, participating groups share their data and findings with DBP for future planning purposes. Get more details here.
